Malcolm Stokes

(assistant director)

Malcolm Stokes is a trumpeter (@malcolmasmusic) who has played around the world – from Japan to Egypt, Israel to South Africa- he loves to share his gift of music with any and everyone. A true California boy, he was born in Los Angeles, raised in Sacramento, and moved to Oakland as a young adult. In addition to these Californian cities he spent nearly 10 years in Washington, D.C. where he earned his B.A. in Music Business from Howard University. After nearly a decade of teaching, wearing many hats in nonprofits, and performing around the DMV and Bay Area, he joined the MBA program at Simon Business School at the University of Rochester, where his concentrations were Entrepreneurship, Finance, and Organizational Strategy. Following business school, Malcolm joined Procter and Gamble, the world’s largest advertiser, as a Senior Finance Manager for the megabrand Secret Deodorant for Women.

He served on the board of three organizations while in Business school before his first professional board experience serving as treasurer for BMLI- a Brooklyn based arts non-profit. Now serving as Board Treasurer for the Arts Administrators of Color Network, Malcolm is leading the stewardship efforts to ensure the organization’s perpetual support of arts administrators is realized for generations to come.

In 2022 he started a consulting firm, Trú Faith Financial Consulting, LLC, whose mission is to positively influence and coach non-profit organizations in order to propel them to new heights to have a lasting impact in the community.

Malcolm enjoys all kinds of athletics – basketball, tennis, volleyball, cycling, running, and swimming; listening to some old timey musicals on vinyl; and a good game night – he loves monopoly, chess, spades, and taboo.

His Family, Malcolm X, and Paul Robeson are his greatest inspirations.
