Job Description: In this dual role, the Counselor - Choreographer will be responsible for designing and teaching dance routines for our musical productions while also providing guidance, supervision, and support to campers throughout their camp experience. Responsibilities include:
As a Choreographer:
Choreography Design: Develop and create engaging dance routines for musical numbers, ensuring they are age-appropriate and align with A Cappella Camp’s performance themes.
Instruction: Teach choreography to campers of varying skill levels, providing clear, enthusiastic, and supportive instruction.
Collaboration: Work closely with the A Cappella Camp’s Music Instructors and Staff to integrate choreography with the overall vision of each performance.
Rehearsals: Lead daily dance rehearsals, ensuring campers are prepared for performances.
Performance Support: Assist with stage movement, and provide feedback during dress rehearsals and live performances; and
Other duties as assigned.
As a Counselor:
Camper Supervision: Oversee a group of campers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and active participation in A Cappella Camp activities.
Daily Activities: Collaborate with other counselors to plan, organize, and lead various recreational and educational activities outside of rehearsals and performances.
Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model, providing guidance and support to campers, and addressing any behavioral or emotional issues that arise.
Community Building: Foster a supportive and inclusive camp environment, encouraging friendships and teamwork among campers.
Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with A Cappella Camp staff and campers, and parents, as needed; and
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience: Proven experience as a choreographer and/or camp counselor, preferably in a camp or educational setting. Experience with jazz and contemporary dance is highly desirable.
Skills: Strong background in various dance styles and techniques. Ability to adapt choreography to different skill levels. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Education: Degree in Dance, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to inspire and motivate young performers.
Passion: A genuine passion for dance, music, and working with teenagers.
Availability: Must be available for the entire duration of the camp, including pre-camp planning sessions.
