Reginald Golden

Since the Fall of 2011, Reginald A. Golden has served as the Musical Director of the HOWARD GOSPEL CHOIR (HGC). Handpicked by his immediate predecessor Clifton Ross, III (recording artist and clinician), he is the tenth person to hold this position. Throughout his tenure, he has continued to maintain HGC’s high level of musical excellence and creative artistry.

Golden’s love for music began long before he commenced his studies at Howard University. The son of the pastor of Glenville Church, he grew up singing in church and eventually rose to leadership positions in music departments on all levels of the Church of Christ (Holiness). In addition to participating in a number of choirs and other ensembles throughout the Greater Cleveland area, he is the Musical Director of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses (the Thomas Dorsey Convention) Bishop Kenneth H. Moales Youth and Young Adult Department. He is currently the director of youth choirs at the historic Metropolitan Baptist Church of Washington, D.C.

During his undergraduate career, Reggie has been afforded many opportunities as a member of the award-winning Afro Blue (Howard University’s premier vocal jazz ensemble) with jazz singer, educator, and arranger Connaitre Miller and as Student Conductor of the Howard University Choir under the tutelage of Dr. J. Weldon Norris. He has travelled extensively in the US and abroad to countries including Bermuda, China, Denmark, Italy, Jamaica, Montenegro, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Panama, and Colombia.

Evidence of Golden’s musical genius reaches far outside the realm of HGC. He has served as the musical director and/or vocal arranger for several stage plays, special events, and as a workshop clinician.

Reggie’s career has afforded him the opportunity to work with some on the most phenomenal musicians on the planet including Marvin Hamlisch (American composer and conductor), Geri Allen (composer, pianist, and jazz educator), Gary Hines (director of Grammy Award-winning ensemble Sounds of Blackness), and Italian pop star Zucchero Fornaciari.

Golden is 2013 alumnus of Howard University in Jazz Studies and looks to graduate from Howard University once again in May 2016 with a Master of Music Education degree. Reginald proudly hails from University Heights, Ohio.
